On August 7th of 2020, Rockland Trust celebrated 20 years serving the Cape Cod community of Massachusetts. From Bourne to Orleans, our locally-based banking teams understand what Cape Codders need and how to best help them reach their financial goals. We asked some of our long-time Rockland Trust Cape Cod employees’ three questions about their experiences and memories to help mark this occasion:

What is unique about working on the Cape?

Universally, our employees appreciate the people who make the Cape the special, homey place they love. Nanette Davidson, Vice President and Business Banking Officer in our Hyannis Branch, explained that those who live and work on Cape Cod “truly care about our communities, businesses and residents support each other's growth by shopping and dining local.”

Nanette, who has been a Business Banking Officer on the Cape for 45 years continued, “We spend our winters supporting these businesses that remain open year-round and enjoy the beauty and quaintness of picturesque Cape Cod in the Fall and Winter. Come January, we start dreaming about May when the tourists come back and enjoy our beautiful peninsula from Falmouth to P-Town.”

Jo-Ann Martin, our former Chatham Branch Manager, has lived on the Cape for more than 50 years and echoed Nanette’s thoughts. She said “Being brought up and living on the ocean, you adapt to a different way of life. A more laid-back and relaxed approach with a strong appreciation of the Cape Peninsula and its beauty. Although the Cape has changed like most other areas, it still has retained much of its ‘olde Cape Cod’ charm. I have been able to make a connection with numerous customers because most of us, whether we have a long history of residency here, have relocated here for retirement or to have a second home, connect because of our love of Cape Cod.”

A 13th generation native Cape Codder and Relationship Banker at our Centerville Branch, Kate Benn explained that she has seen many changes in her over 40 years working at the bank. “When I was growing up it was only a summer destination for people. Labor Day came and then it was ‘our place’ again. Now, it is more of a year-round spot to visit. The year-round population has exploded and diversified as well.”

Do you have any standout memories with Rockland Trust customers?

Our customers are at the center of everything we do, and it comes as no surprise that our long-time employees have wonderful memories of their relationships with our customers over the years.

Karyn Sears, our Hyannis Main Street branch manager, shared that many customers came to visit her and celebrate the birth of her children. “They were just as excited for me as my family was,” she said.

District Manager, Patrice Pimental has a similar experience of familiarity with customers. Though she no longer manages a branch, customers still call her just to chat. Debra Carroll, our other Hyannis Branch Manager, has even had long-time customers move as far as Australia and continue to bank with Rockland Trust.

Banking with Rockland Trust is often a family affair, allowing us to serve generations of the same family and help them reach personal and business financial goals. Barbara Saunders, a Teller in West Dennis recalled “One of my all-time favorite customers was a gentleman who was always driven by taxi to the bank and would only come to me. Years later, a customer came into our West Dennis branch and after a brief conversation, I asked if the taxi-riding gentleman was his father. It turns out he was and we had a great conversation about his father.”

What are your favorite local spots on Cape Cod?

We wanted to find some of the hidden gems and jewels on the Cape to help you shop, dine and relax like a local!

  • To immerse yourself with Cape Cod’s natural beauty, visit Nobska Light and The Knob in Woods Hole for a perfect date night.
  • Kate Benn spoke fondly of her summers growing up on North Beach in Chatham. While she has many favorite restaurants, two of her favorites are Tomatoes Italian Bar & Grill in Sandwich and Sam Diego's Mexican Cookery in Hyannis.
  • Patrice Pimental highly recommends getting your morning coffee fix at Cape Cod Coffee at either of their Mashpee locations.
  • Orleans Branch Manager, Stephen Polowczyk thinks you would be remiss if you didn’t check out The Beacon Room in Orleans and Wellfleet's Newcomb Hollow Beach. He also can be found shopping at Snow's Home and Garden.
  • Jo-Ann broke down her favorite beaches into the best place to swim (Craigville Beach in Centerville) and her favorite beach to walk (Kalmus Beach in Hyannis).
  • A trip to the Cape is not complete without checking out the Cape Cod Rail Trail and the Cold Storage Beach in East Dennis according to Barbara.
  • Karyn Sears satisfies her seafood craving at Kream ‘N Kone in West Dennis. When she craves great wings and wants to watch our favorite New England sports teams, Karyn heads to DJ’s Famous Wings in Falmouth.
  • Nanette recommends going to The Skipper Restaurant in South Yarmouth to enjoy the best clam chowder with gorgeous views of the ocean.
