As we face unprecedented and uncertain times, one thing remains clear: many small businesses in our local communities need our support now more than ever. Rockland Trust asked on social media for nominations for local small businesses that are making an impact in the communities they serve. Each Monday in April, Rockland Trust randomly selected one deserving small business to receive $1,000*.
Each of our winners finds its own unique way to give back to its local community. Below, you can learn a little about each business. For a more in-depth profile, check out their Support Small Businesses Spotlight.
Please note: To keep all of the community support going, we have decided to continue accepting nominations through the month of May. See more details.
Carl Munroe and Cheryl Kelley own Mr. Carl's Hair & Nail Design, a salon that has been family-owned for more than 50 years. This local business does a lot of good in the community — supporting the local food bank, raising money for pediatric cancer research and working with the Somerset Lions Club to raise money for the community.
For the past 26 years, 50-acre, family-owned Elliot Farm has provided Southeastern Massachusetts with quality, native produce through a retail farm stand and Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) program. Elliot Farm works with The Farm & Community Collaborative, a local nonprofit organization, to help alleviate food insecurity by improving access to local farm fresh produce for underserved populations.
Owner Dolly Hardy began her boutique in 2012 and has been giving back to her community in a number of ways. From fundraisers benefiting numerous organizations to donating prom dresses to young women in need, Dolly is grateful that “This business gives [her] an opportunity to make a difference.”
B FREE Coaching & Wellness in Harwich Port is a wellness community that changes lives through movement, mindfulness and fun, helping to move difficult emotions out of the body. Ayanna Parrent, owner and founder of B FREE Coaching & Wellness says the company is “in the process of developing a non profit organization to develop direct programming for those dealing with really complex trauma affected by COVID-19.”
Now more than ever, it’s important for us to rally around our local businesses that are the backbone of our local economy.
Because we at Rockland Trust have enjoyed learning about your favorites, we have decided to continue accepting nominations until May 25th and the new weekly giveaway will be $1,500**. Nominations made in April will carry over to the May drawings. If you have a business in your community that you would like to nominate, please comment on our Facebook post.
